About ACRS
The Alleghany County Rescue Squad, Inc. organized in 1969 after a tragic accident occurred within the county. The presence of a lifesaving organization could have made the difference between life and death. Many local people got together to form this lifesaving organization that has progressed during the years into a well running non-profit organization.
The Alleghany County Rescue Squad provides backup service for the Alleghany County EMS and assists with any vehicle accidents where extrication might be needed, or transport of multiple patients. We do not charge for our services. Our funding comes from a variety of sources. During each year we hold letter drives, BBQ's, standby at the fairgrounds events, and up to this year we have hosted the Junior Rodeo. We also stand by at the Alleghany High football games and any other functions where our services might be needed.
Our personnel are very dedicated to giving their time to training and answering the calls for help whenever it might be. There are currently about 35 active members who spend many hours away form their families in order to serve their fellow citizens of Alleghany County.
The operations in which our squad members are trained are: High Angle Rescue, Search & Recovery, Diving Team, Swift Water Rescue, and Vehicle Extrication.
