Sparta is the county seat of Alleghany County and offers all that could be wished for in a small busy mountain town. There are well-stocked stores which make Sparta the trading area, not only for the year-round poulation, but it become in summer the center of buying for all the vacationland colony and tourist trade. Good grocery stores, complete drug stores, garages, and service stations are all quite adequate. A modern theatre offers the best in cinema entertainment, while on Friday nights there is roller skating, and on Saturday nights the big V. F. W. sponsored Square Dances.
