Saturday at The Alleghany Jubilee: Old time or bluegrass band performs at 8 p.m. Come to dance or listen. Admission is a whopping $4. 25 North Main Street.

Friday and Saturday see Appalachian Musical Instrument Exhibit: 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., at the Sparta Teapot Museum of Craft and Design in downtown Sparta. Exhibit features handmade instruments by mountain artisans. Free admission. 336-372-7238

Friday and Saturday see the Quilters' Guild Show: 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., at the Black Exhibition Building at the County Fairgrounds on US 21, 1.5 miles north of town. See displays the handiwork of local fiber artists. No admission charged. The Fairgrounds offers ample parking and the Saturday shuttle service between this show and the Fair make it easy to take in both events. 336-372-5838

Saturday see the VFW Car Show: Gates open at 7:30a for entries. Judging begins at 10a. Awards presented at 2p. At 4p all the entries are invited to cruise down Main Street to mark the show's close. Live entertainment. Concessions available. 120 Trojan Avenue in the NAPCO parking lot. 336-572-2477

Monday with the Crouse House Pickers: Informal jam by local musicians. Come to listen or play. No admission charged, but donations appreciated. 6 p.m. until around 9 p.m.
