Directed by Paula Joines ACT I ACT II There will be a 10-minute intermission following ACT I Paula Joines (Director) is ACT President, a founding member of ACT and, more than anyone else, its driving force. She is employed as a BK teacher/speech-language pathologist with Alleghany County Schools' preschool program. She was last seen onstage in the role of Mrs. Carpenter in Nuptials, and Kate Keller in All My Sons. She has served as director for Gift of the Magi, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Where the Lilies Bloom. She will be appearing as Lotty Foster in Tom Dooley, A Wilkes County Legend, with the Wilkes Playmakers. Paula's most loved role however is as "Mom" to Kelaiya, Justin and Jordan as well as "Nana" to Austin, Lucy and Katelyn. Susan Q. Landreth (Stage Manager) is a fine arts-drama student at Wilkes Community College where she was last seen as the Queen in Snow White, and the stepsister, Portia, in Cinderella. She was technical and assistant director for Nuptials, played Shelby in Steel Magnolias, Faye in Faith County and Madame Safronie in Gift of the Magi. Susan is an ACT Board member and the distributor of the Social Calendar, a monthly listing of nearby theatre productions and events. To family and friends, she says, "Thank you for your continued support of my new path in life!" Joyce Ann Walker (Dorothy) is a drama student at Wilkes Community College. This is her first ACT production. Other credits include Annie, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Bus Stop, Our Town, Picnic (stage manager), and the Sweethearts Dinner Theater at WCC this past spring. Joyce says she hopes you enjoy the show as much as she does performing for you. Robbie Presnell (Charlie) is a US Postal carrier, a founding ACT Board Member and former ACT President. He directed Shock of His Life and Faith County and has performed in All My Sons, Where the Lillies Bloom, and Nuptials. Prior to ACT, he participated in several Catawba College theatrical productions. He has participated in mission projects in Guatemala and other areas. His wife, Paula, is the driving force behind Mountain Dreams Realty and has been hostess for numerous ACT social gatherings. Tom Rector (Nathan) has appeared onstage in ACT's productions of Faith County, All My Sons and Kenny and Raymond, and directed last spring's successful production of Nuptials. Other stage credits include Arsenic and Old Lace and The Diary of Anne Frank. Tom currently serves as Second Vice-President of ACT, is a self-employed, single dad, a screenwriter and author, and he recently started Bluespy Films, his own local production company. Horace the Dummy began performing in California, eventually landing work in Hollywood where he enjoyed a lucrative career in show business. After several years, he gave up the glitz and glamour for rural community theater. He enjoys hamming it up with cast members backstage, flirting with the leading ladies and hanging out with his pal, Mango the Monkey. Hobbies include wood carving and doing impressions. This is Horace's stage debut with ACT, but he looks forward to participating in future productions. Thom Burleson (Wayne Seabury) is the Presbyterian Minister in town. Amateurs is his second theatrical performance. In high school he was found behind the scenes but never in the spotlight. He says it has been a thrill for him to play against type as the perpetually pissed and perplexed ego-centric, wannabe chick magnet, Wayne. More the at-home family man type, Thom is married and has two kids. Leanne Murray (Jennifer Collins) makes her acting debut in Amateurs. Leanne has been interested in joining ACT since she moved to Sparta almost two years ago. In high school she was involved with the speech team, but never a play. She relocated to the county to take the position of executive director at the Chamber of Commerce. Kathy Mizerak (Irene Chilmark) is a third-grade teacher at Sparta School with 25 years in the classroom. The mother of three - Scott, 23; Megan, 21; and Erik, 19 - she just sent her youngest off to college and is enjoying new-found freedom with husband, Mike. After playing the prim preacher's wife in Faith County and doing a brief stint as an extra in Wilmington, NC, on the set of Dawson's Creek, Kathy has been bitten by the acting bug. Bob Bamberg (Ernie Chilmark) is the ACT Treasurer. Previous ACT onstage appearances include Nuptials and Faith County. His work with various theatrical groups includes performances in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Arsenic and Old Lace, and L'il Abner. Bob and his wife, Ruth, reside in Twin Oaks with their dogs. Jennifer Tracy (Mona Williams) was last seen as Violet Farkle in ACT's production of Faith County. She also served on the technical crew for Steel Magnolias. A first grade teacher in Stokes County, she was recently named Teacher of the Year at her school for the second year in a row. Jennifer and husband John reside in Glade Valley with their two children, Travis, a third grader, and Brooke, pre-K. When not playing the role of mother, teacher, and actress, she enjoys scrapbooking, rubber stamping and being an EMT. Brad Jenkins (Paul Cortland) is a real estate agent with United Country/Foxfire Realty and a board member with ACT. Previous ACT experience includes directing Steel Magnolias and playing Joe Keller in All My Sons. Other stage credits include: Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Matthew Brady in Inherit the Wind, as well as professional roles with the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival and Brooch Theatre. When not on stage he also raises sheep and enjoys playing with his grandchildren.
