Our mountains
So Close to your home
With
Stone Mountain and New River state parks and the Blue Ridge Parkway,
nature created Sparta, North Carolina, and Alleghany County's
central tourist attraction the great outdoors. As North
Carolina's eastern-most mountain county, our slice of the Blue
Ridge forms the mountain backyard to the Triad and Piedmont communities
and is easily reached via US 421, I-40 and I-77.
Whether you
plan a day trip, weekend getaway or a longer visit, the Blue
Ridge Mountains and New River are so close to the Peidmont. For
driving-time information, check
this list of North Carolina Piedmont cities and other regional
locations or let Google map your trip. Select "Get Directions"
and enter your zip code in the top block and 28675 or Sparta,
NC in the second.
Sparta
offers quaint shops, small-town hospitality and pride that is
on parade every day of the week. From hiking and horseback riding,
to canoeing and motorcycling, as well as unique events such as
lawn mower racing and fiddling competition, there's always something
or if you prefer, nothing to do.
Even
during the hottest days of summer, mountain breezes offer a cool
respite. And our fall colors are hard to match. Plan to come
up the mountain for a visit to Alleghany County and Sparta, North
Carolina. Our Welcome Mat is always out. |
